Arclight #1 by Marian Churchland is really good and you should go read it.
It was a busy day of drawing today because tomorrow I have to haul an entire Civic full of books to the used book store. My girlfriend’s and my frenzied decluttering yielded several hundred volumes of fantasy, sci-fi, and comics, so if you’re in the Northampton, MA area, you might want to hit up Raven Used Books in about a week, because that store is about to get a lot nerdier.
So, there’s something that’s been on my mind with the ghosts. Why was Ismene, and possibly Vax, not on Gurahl in eternal torment? Aren’t they in violation of Tamantha?
That’s a good question and one that has to do with orbital dynamics–a subject that I generally try to keep out of my action-fantasy comic! The simplest answer is that Gurahl’s world, Kaard, has a kind of “gravitational” effect on souls. But Kaard is only ever in one place in the cosmos at a time. If a soul’s transition from wherever it dies to the Stars of Death and Sleep takes it near Kaard, it may fall onto it. If not, the soul avoids falling in.
That a soul’s final disposition depends partially on dumb luck, like it’s a ball in a pachinko machine, INFURIATES followers of Tamantha. At least those willing to admit it.
That’s actually something I’ve sorta been meaning to ask about:
Is there any chance that you’ll write up a trivia list or something with a bunch of those background setting details?
Because I LOVE reading about that kind of thing. Hence why I’m here.
I don’t actually have plans for an official guide or anything, but I’m happy to field questions.
And oh God, Raven Used Books makes you work for the money. I hope I never have to lift two or more books at the same time ever again.
