In this case, I think it’s less about “I’ve got to turn back from my evil path.” and more “Can I ask for forgiveness?”
A big thing throughout this story is this idea that once you’re on a path, you’ve got to ride it out, and if the ship sinks, die with dignity.
So this is a world that really doesn’t do second chances, which Dosh needs in order to have a reason to not raise the alarm on Varax here or something like that.
And yet, the damned sorcerer regained his soul, the blinded Yig became savior to his people, the harlots became ladies, and the doomed priestess was reborn.
I think Dosh has the right of it. He knows he got sucked in and really isn’t in control. He knows what he has done doesn’t have a way out and prolly can’t ever balance the scales. If he walks away nothing really changes. Maresh will prolly just find another way to drag him back. If he stays he is Maresh’s pet. He doesn’t know how to usurp control from Maresh. Dosh is screwed and he knows it.
How DO you back away from the abyss?
I think the process starts by admitting that you’re standing at the edge of it. I’m just not sure if Dosh has the courage to do even that much.

What dreams and future may come of this?
