…In other words, Gurahl was a murdering jerk from the beginning and would have wiped out the world had he not been stopped?
My goodness, this was clearly only a matter of time before he did something along these lines.
True enough Vox. But instead of erasing the wicked and educating the leftovers so as to help them become more virtuous he elected the easy route of killing anybody who deviated from his idea of perfection. Which actually made him wicked. What does Tamantha make sure happens to the wicked? That they get punished.
and the fact that one way Tamantha “punishes” those that break the “rules” is by driving them insane and thus creating more monsters that harm normal people is NOT a good way for creating a better world, just goes to show how insane the whole system appears to be.
A smarter way would have been to use something like Pain/Pleasure for Punishing/Rewarding good or bad behavior.
Gurahl seems to think he is some sort of gardener and that he just needs to get rid off enough weeds….
Is madness all it does? Seems to me such a solution would cause more wickedness, not cure it. No, I think Tamantha has other capabilities than madness. It is just nobody is mad enough to try and gain access to Tamantha. Who but a god would be able to fully understand it? What god (outside of Gurahl) would be daft enough to try to gain control of it? It is literally the god machine. Without a master it grinds along with terrible purpose but also achieving nothing. With a master I suspect it punished with impunity and immorality.

Hey now, who among us hasn’t gone overboard on a project? Gurahl was just a perfectionist with a clear design goal and tunnel vision.
