Otomo does this cool thing where when characters are running he puts the camera on the floor. I’m trying to figure out exactly how he does it.
And, oh man, I need to finish writing the script for Chapter 15. More importantly, I need to sit down and accept that I am Mostly Done with this comic and organize the remainder of the plot. The task is a bit overwhelming–psychologically, more than logistically. I’ve been working on WPK, one way or another, for ten years.
I think you did an extremely good job with perspective in the first panel. The point-of-view on the floor worked very well, but what I like most is the corridor: adding depth, thus setting the two groups of runners into a relation, but instead of just drawing straight “perspective lines” you break the walls and the roof up. So the effect becomes much more subtle. Otherwise the brain would at once recognize how it is tricked into the third dimenson. Great!
But the whole page is very dynamic. The dramatic changes of viewpoint, perspecitve and focus underline the furious pacing perfectly.
But I think I have stated on more than one opportunity how much I like your art. The fact that you bring this story to a conclusion is saddening. But on the other hand I am happy that this tale will be told to the end and not just stop in the middle like so much good web comics.
Thank you for all of that!
Yes, my goal by the end of WPK, artistically, is to have gotten a really solid grasp of perspective and anatomy-in-perspective. I have a great book on the subject that unfortunately I don’t have time to practice with because I have a webcomic to draw. Hopefully, after I finish my next script, I can devote a bit of time to practice.
Any thoughts on what you might tackle next after WPK is finished?
“Any thoughts on what you might tackle next after WPK is finished?”
Enough thoughts to fill a book. I have at least three ideas that are prepped and ready to become webcomics, including a short (250-page) modern-fantasy story that’s currently the front-runner. Of course, I still have a while to figure out exactly what to do. And before that I need to finish writing the next chapter!
