That’s the strong point of an honor-based system-it gives you reason to fight to the bitter end.
But seriously, magic glasses that let him see? I did not expect that, or the wizard with a straw in his brains.

Gilgam and Kawunei are definitely two of my favorite characters, and this kind of scene shows why. They seem to work so well together despite having apparently different sets of values.
This would be kind of a useful time for Kawunei to spontaneously gain the ability of the new Yiggish science. It’s been started, but Kawunei is supposed to be the one to bring it to his people. So developing the ability to use it would be a useful thing. Even if the walls are warded in some way, the ball and chain probably isn’t.
*Ahem*
From my understanding, Barabon never lost his body…And we’ve never seen these wizardly guys before, though they kinda look like the kleptriad…
But allow me to enlighten you guys to my theory=Look at Gilgam’s face VERY carefully. Isn’t something….Misssing?
This is a flashback. Yiggish science won’t be making an appearance. I think the straw is what’s left of the circlet/crown thing he was wearing before it got mashed into his brains.
Sad part is I can’t actually tell whose uniforms are who, so many important and sacred battle-raiments, so little time.
Though presumably the guys getting killed are the good guys each time.
