You know what I’m starting to hate drawing? “Energy blasts.†I bet Kirby loved drawing that kind of stuff, and it’s all over manga, but I get nothing out of it. My art is very literal-minded; if the script needs a flying castle, I can draw a castle and stick it in the air, but abstractions stump me, especially ones that are based primarily on Photoshop manipulation.
hrm…Well, most people just go ‘colored flying fire/lightning/lazer’…I figure something that might help is this: what exactly is being shot? A bolt of death, if you can’t figure out a literal appearance, go for invoking the symbols of death-black with a faint look of ‘souls’ or ‘bones’, or perhaps a brief silhouette of a gravestone wherever it hits.
Symbolic I think is the way to go when you’re not working with something that someone can simply ‘see’ in one form or another, like gravity, or whatever the heck min-tin’s supposed to be (spacial displacement’s my best bet.)
Min-tin is science. That is what min-tin is.
But don’t worry; the energy blasts look plenty good, but you could mix it up with stuff like summoned arrows or the like.
