I love drawing those veil-things.
Anyway, two exciting things worthy of your attention! First–okay, this one is less exciting–I’ve continued to clean up my novel, The Unlit Sea, and may menace the world with submissions soon. I’m undecided on whether or not to just send it out or to continue fiddling.
Second, I have updated my Links page, since link rot had infected the previous iteration to a terrifying degree. Please browse through other interesting comics.
Send it out! The time for fiddling has past. Move it on out so you can move on with other ideas you may have percolating. In my humble opinion.
I really liked this page. Anthem’s line about thinking Vish was not-human in a very her-own-race way was really entertaining and telling about the way she (and people in general) see the world: if you don’t understand it, equate it to something you’re close to.
As far as your novel goes, fiddling can only get you so far. Sure, you’ll be able to clean up a lot on your own and make it better, but eventually the changes that you make will start to become detrimental to its quality. At least, that’s what my creative writing professors have all said (and when you get three of them to agree, it has to be good advice). My two cents: get someone who isn’t family to read it over and make sure it works, consider the suggestions that they make (although you don’t have to make those changes–they are only suggestions, after all), and then send it in. You can do it! Good luck!
It’s good to hear people’s advice. I actually had the privilege of receiving edits from several regular WPK readers a few months ago, and they had lots of good advice. At this point I’m tempted to do one final read-through and then start querying agents and submitting to publishers.
Then go for it! I’m sure you’ll let us know how it turns out. 🙂
