So here’s another awful city, a sort of Medieval Prague to compete with Tam Ruat’s Victorian London. You will be seeing very few of the nice cities (Gasatri, Ninyel, Jedaru) in your tour of Chalt.
I messed around with shadows again on this page, inspired by some of Mignola’s drawings of Lankhmar. Heavy shadows are tricky, since they really force you to, well, get your shadows right. You can halfass it with soft shadows, especially if they’re fuzzy, but when you’re dropping parts of someone’s face into total darkness it’s harder. It’s especially tricky with Corva–Gilgam’s face is all sharp planes and angles, but Corva, from top to bottom, is drawn as a collection of apple shapes, and it’s harder to find where to place absolute shading divisions on something so damn round.
So Thrale hasn’t expelled all Hadrakahns from his city-state? Huh. Interesting.
(Also interesting: Rosie as UFO. Her idea or theirs, I wonder…)
Especially loving Panel 2. Very Sin City. And, yes! Lankhmar!
