I chose the title “Dreadlord†because I thought it was so colossally pompous-sounding that it could only be a translation, especially since most “Dreadlords†are merely provincial administrators, on par with an earl or colonial governor. I have since been informed that actual fantasy novels use the title unironically.
Thus the title. (I wondered if that bit of biographical trivia was going to figure again…)
first, I have just caught up after stumbling across this comic. fascinating stuff.
second. some fantasy, yes the name is pompous and misleading, others…it fits. the one I am specifically thinking of is Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. Dreadlords were humans, twisted by evil, and given command of armies of trollocs (orcs, weres, and trolls, all rolled into one) that wrought destruction for 300 years. when the title may as well translate as “Col. Yoth” yeah, pretty much a useless name.
