This page took its sweet time, but the results are okay. The bicorns in panel 3 turned out unusually well. It was also fun to redraw the Temple of the Comet, though man, my architectural skills need work.
I mean, who else would dress like that?
So I’ve been rewatching Avatar–the real one, not that blue cat shit–and I’ve been trying (without much success) to recreate the really great shadows in that show, especially around the faces. Right now I pretty much only have two types of face-shadows: “left” and “right.” Sometimes I get ambitious and work with negative space, darkening a whole head then subtracting some of the shading, but that’s still a bit beyond my abilities. Mastering the fancier lighting-tricks is still a bit beyond me.
Wearing a sword is really tricky. So is drawing the little strappy bits. In general I am terrible at little strappy bits and vacillate between carefully drawing them and just sort of hiding the important bits.
