Had fun drawing something a bit more splashy than usual, since my original script (lots of dust and negative space) sort of fell through, given the limits of my artistic abilities.
I’ve noticed that I really only know how to draw “dashing forward” one way.
I actually had much grander plans for these pages, involving the bones throwing up dust and having a big nifty fight in the darkness, with the “colossopods” outlined by glowing runes. Unfortunately I couldn’t get them to look right and ended up scrapping that whole plan. Still, I think they turned out looking okay.
This page was fun; I like writing dialogue for Corva and Gilgam, especially since Corva has no idea what he’s talking about here. I wish I could’ve nailed her expression in panel 2; as is, it’s mostly conveyed by dialogue.
I had fun messing around with Photoshop tricks for the display, but running the options by my editor (also my girlfriend), we agreed that they obscured what was happening too much. While I wanted to show that these devices were decrepit–a thousand years old, as Gilgam says–I also wanted to make things show up at least somewhat clearly.
Not perfectly happy with some of the stances and expressions on this page; I need more photo-reference for expressions.
